Personal & Professional Background

What inspired you to pursue a career in banking?

It's quite interesting because I initially went to school for Computer Informatics with the intention of entering the IT world. While searching for employment, I came across a job opportunity in loan origination, so I registered with NMLS and passed the originator test. Once I started helping clients close on their homes, I realized this was the career I wanted to pursue. I wanted a profession where I could make a difference in people's lives, and I found no better way than assisting clients in closing on their first home, financing a dream car or simply having a meeting to get their financials in order for a better future.

What’s the most memorable client interaction you’ve ever had?

One memorable interaction involved a couple looking to downsize and move closer to their family. They were unfamiliar with the process of selling their house and using the funds for a new purchase. I guided them through every step, from phone calls to emails and in-person meetings. When the loan closed, they were so grateful that they even gave me a heartfelt thank you note. Experiences like these remind me why I am part of the consumer banking team; they show that our work truly matters.

If you could give one piece of advice to someone applying for a loan, what would it be?

My best advice would be to ask questions. No matter how simple or complex the topic, asking questions leads to gaining more knowledge. The consumer banking world, especially anything related to real estate, can be confusing at times. Asking questions also helps build a trusting relationship with your banker or loan officer, which is essential when dealing with finances.

What’s a common myth about banking or lending that you’d like to debunk?

A common myth is that consumers need to take their business elsewhere for investment services. This isn't always true, as some banks offer investment services alongside savings accounts, CDs, and checking accounts. At First National Bank and Trust Company, we provide these investment and wealth management services to help anyone grow their financial future.

What skills or qualities do you think make someone successful in your role?

To be a successful relationship manager, you need to listen to your clients and care about their interests and future goals. Building a banking relationship with an institution that sees you as more than just a loan or a number is crucial. Demonstrating empathy goes a long way and results in the best outcomes for the client.

Beyond Banking

If you weren’t in banking, what would your dream job be?

My dream job would be something related to sports, specifically basketball. I would love to be an NBA or college basketball analyst - it's my favorite sport. I enjoy watching games and staying up to date on all the different leagues.

What’s the most surprising thing about your job that people wouldn’t expect?

People often come in looking for a loan and end up building a banking relationship that goes beyond that. To me, banking is all about building relationships in the community and ensuring our community knows the path to a financially secure future.

What is one thing you never leave the house without and why?

I never go anywhere without God. I keep my faith with me in my heart, at home and everywhere I go. Without God, I wouldn't be the person I am today. He has blessed me with a loving wife, three amazing kids, and a supportive family. He is the foundation that holds our family together - it's only right that I keep Him with me everywhere I go.

What does a typical Sunday afternoon look like for you?

After attending church with my family, we typically go out to eat together. Sundays are a time for us to unwind and prepare for the upcoming week.

What’s one thing in your office that always sparks a conversation with clients or coworkers?

I have several drawings and colored pages from my kids displayed in my office. These artworks never fail to spark conversations and bring smiles to clients and coworkers.

Personal Interests & Hobbies

Do you have a hobby or skill that your coworkers/clients don’t know about?

One of my favorite hobbies is playing basketball. I am fortunate enough to still be able to play, and you can often find me playing at the Wanek Center or one of the parks in town. My boys have also taken an interest in basketball, and I enjoy coaching them and watching them grow.

What’s a dream destination you’d love to travel to and why?

I would love to travel to San Juan, Puerto Rico. I have been there as a kid and young adult, but I would like to visit with my family to show them the place I grew up before coming to the United States.

If you could recommend one book, podcast, or movie that influenced you, what would it be?

I recommend the book, "The Pact: Three Young Men Make a Promise and Fulfill a Dream." It tells the story of three young men who, despite facing adversities and temptations, make a pact to become doctors. The book demonstrates that no matter what challenges you face, you can achieve your dreams if you set your mind to it. As God's Word says, "I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me."

What’s your favorite local small business to support and why?

My favorite local business to support is Optimus Barbershop. My boys and I go there for haircuts. Marco and his team are excellent and never disappoint. The barbershop is conveniently located in Arcadia, WI.
